Pampering Your Direct Selling Party Hostess 1

Good hostesses can make or break a direct sales business.  Can your business survive without them?

Do you want to risk finding out?

Happy hostesses will help you gain repeat business over and over again, so it’s essential that your hostesses know you appreciate them.

In these articles we will give some fast, easy suggestions as to how to pamper your direct selling party hostess so she will be thrilled to have you back.

Perfect party treatment begins with a great attitude before, during, and after the party.  This sounds simple enough, but it is not always easy to do with the pressure of work, and anxiety over sales, which after all, are real money.

This is a business, true, but often the harder you try, the less you succeed, so just relax, and think of it as more of a party and a networking and brand-building opportunity. Any exposure of your business and direct selling products is better than none, even if you don’t come away with a book full of sales.

The most important thing to remember is that you set the tone for the party, and your attitude will be contagious.  If you’re feeling less than genuinely thrilled about your direct sales business and products, your hostess will pick up on it.

This may leave her wondering why she’s throwing a party in the first place.  Therefore, make sure your attitude is positive and professional at all times when around your hostess or potential hostesses.  Smile. Be happy, cheerful, and positive, and try to have several anecdotes or mini-reviews about the products to help people along in their purchasing decisions.

But also make sure to talk about the things THEY are interested in. A direct selling party is not the place for the hard sell.

In all likelihood, there will also be other direct sales consultants for the company in your community, for example, Avon or Tupperware.

Direct selling is a thriving and growing business model even with the ease of shopping on the internet. Many people are joining the direct sales industry to create a little additional income during these financially tough times.  Almost 75% of American households have bought something through direct sales in the past year.

Consider connecting with these other direct sales consultants, and take turns hosting your direct selling parties. In many cases, they will not only know the ropes, they will be able to offer invaluable advice on what to do and not do now that you are direct selling.

If you don’t know any other direct sales consultants, post an ad in your local church or school newsletter inviting people to your house. Once they come, start networking like crazy to see who would be willing to host parties in the future.

Take time to check out the venues, and the proposed guest list in terms of average numbers, and start booking your parties.

It might seem daunting to ask people to host a party for you, but you need to get over that shyness quickly if you are going to be successful at direct sales. Remember, if you are selling them a useful product they need, there is nothing to be embarrassed about.

Also, don’t be shy about telling people you are launching a new phase of your life as a direct marketer.  In many cases, if you explain that you are thinking of going into business, or what your future ambitions are, most people will want to offer help, support and advice.

They’ll be glad they helped you, and being a hostess, when you’re the direct sales consultant in charge, is guaranteed to be mostly fun, not work. Just make sure you do your part to be as organized and helpful as possible.

It may take a little creative thinking to locate your first direct sales party hostess.  However, once the ball is rolling, and you’ve held you first party, if it goes well, then chances are, many others will be lining up to host a party and your business will be well on its way to attaining your goals.

Find Your First Direct Selling Party Hostess 1

Starting a direct sales business is one of the most exciting times of your career. When the sales start coming in, you will naturally be quite excited. So what are your next steps?

Once you’ve created a business plan, familiarized yourself with all of the products and marketing materials, and perhaps even created a website, the next step is to throw your first direct sales party.  That means finding your first party hostess, which for many people can be a daunting task.

But fear not. Everyone loves a party, right? So here are a few places to begin.

One of the most obvious places to start is with your relatives.  In most cases, they will be only too happy to help you out with your new business.

However, in order to make hosting a party more of a pleasure than an obligation or even annoyance, make sure to ask relatives who will be interested in your products, and who will have friends who are interested in the direct selling business. It won’t do any good if Uncle Jim hosts a party for your new gift basket business and invites all his mechanic friends, unless they happen to be the world’s biggest romantics.

But what if you don’t have family in the area, or you just don’t want to ask them for any favors?  The next obvious place to try is with your friends.

Again, make sure to ask only the friends who would actually benefit from the products and would possibly enjoy being a hostess and learning more about direct selling with the company you’ve chosen.

Make it fun for them and promise you’ll be a good coach and sales representative.  Let them know what’s in it for them too, like great hostess gifts and discounts on many of the products.  (Consider also trading with them if it helps. In other words, if they host a party, you will watch their children for a day, or whatever other help they need.)

Take advantage of discounts for you and the whole family.

Finally, some direct sales companies may offer discounts and resources which will help you save money and build your business. For example, they may off discounts on insurance, office supplies, printing and more.  Every penny save is a penny earned. You want to be successful in business, so yes, you can write off essential expenses on your taxes.

But why pay more than you have to? In these economic times, spend every penny like it might be your last. Don’t go overboard with your new business and spend more than you are making.

It is great to take advantage of direct selling discounts or affiliate opportunities, but it is no savings if these are things you would never buy in the first place.

The same is true with gift giving and holiday shopping. It is great to want to share the love and largesse, so to speak, but make sure you are not your own biggest customer. And that the gifts you give are actually going to be welcome ones, not make you look cheap in front of the whole family who roll their eyes at the brand new set of Tupperware you just gave them.

Make your direct sales company work for you and you’ll be that much closer to building the business you desire.

Use the marketing supplies they provide.

Marketing supplies can be the most expensive to create, and difficult to produce inexpensively in short runs. Therefore, use your company’s marketing supplies as far as you possibly can.

Brochures, invitations, flyers, catalogs, scripts, thank you cards, business cards, and even direct mail pieces, can all be used to help build your business successfully. Also look at their website to see what you could use on your own site to promote the products.

Which brings us to our next piece of advice:

Use the technology they provide/recommend.
Many direct sales companies have embraced the power of technology and now offer website hosting, templates, graphics, links, buttons and even full mini-sites or whole shopping cart systems, so you can set up your very own business website with very little effort.

Of course, each company is different, but if you are choosing between different direct sales opportunities, you might want to go for one that makes it as easy as possible for you to be successful through the use of all the collateral material they provide.

Use the technology resources and aids your company supplies or recommends in order to make your job as easy as possible, so you can just get on with the business of selling, rather than a whole lot of tech and marketing and design and layout etc.

Use the hostess gifts they provide/recommend.

Some direct sales companies offer a very structured hostess coaching and incentive program, while others again let the direct sales consultant create a coaching and incentive program that works best for them.

Use any and all of the coaching materials that your company provides.  Presumably they’ve done their research and they have a history of success with their coaching and incentives, otherwise they would not still be in business.

That being said, if you find that some of their materials are not working for you, then revise the program to fit y our needs.

Moreover, don’t hesitate to tell the direct sales company what works, what doesn’t, and ask for guidance and guidelines. Also share with them any solution you think you might have found.  They can use your experience and advice to tweak the program to make it more effective, in which case, everyone is a winner.

They might even thank you for it with special discounts, sales awards, or some other form of recognition for your efforts.

For example, many women sell Avon products. Most of these women will use the products faithfully, even enthusiastically.  I know many people swear by Avon Skin So Soft not only as a moisturizer, but also as an insect repellent. That did not work for me, but it does for my mother.

Or their vanilla or raspberry lip balm. I like the way they both taste good, and leave your lips soft, without gluing them together. And guys will like the taste, and not just from kissing you!

You see, features and benefits. And I can give specific details because I really do use the product.

Their lip plumper is not bad; it does what it is supposed to, and does not leave your mouth numb or burning, and it tastes pretty good too. It may not give you the huge trout pout so many movie starlets seem to be going for these days, but for the price, it gives you plump, soft and kissable lips, with a natural look and gloss.

You see, specific details again. So use the products, write little mini-stories or reviews, and put them up on your site or as part of your handouts as you look for new customers. You can do My Top Picks, My 5 Faves, and so on.

Make Your Direct Sales Company Work For You 1

Direct sales companies have their own unique personalities just like direct sales consultants. Some companies offer a wealth of information, technology, templates, marketing material and even resources to their consultants.

Others leave consultants to build up the business to what they want and need it to be.

The following articles will give you some ideas as to how to make your direct sales company work for you.

Use the supplies they provide/recommend.

Most often when a direct sales consultant signs on to represent a company, they are provided a starter kit.

This starter kit may contain a small amount of sample products, or it may be a very large kit with an abundance of products.

These products are designed to help you become acquainted with the products you’re going to be representing and selling.

Therefore, make sure Use them to that end.  You can use these products for demonstrations as well as educational purposes. There is also nothing quite as convincing as a person who has actually used the product themselves, and can tell stories about the results.
